What is IUL?

Indexed Universal Life is life insurance designed for long-term coverage. Along with a death benefit for your loved ones, it has cash value that may earn interest based partly on a market index.

Why do people consider it?

  • Family protection: Money for loved ones if you pass away while covered.
  • Growth potential: Cash value may earn index-linked interest.
  • Flexibility: Some policies let you adjust premiums as your needs change.
  • Access options: You may be able to borrow or withdraw available cash value, with costs and risks.

What if the market goes down?

Many IUL indexed accounts have a 0% floor. That means a negative index year generally results in 0% indexed interest rather than a negative interest credit.

Your policy still has insurance costs and fees, so cash value can decrease. The floor protects against negative indexed interest, not every change in policy value.

Is IUL right for you?

That depends on your goals, budget, and how long you plan to keep the coverage. I'll explain the numbers in plain English and help you compare your options.

IUL is permanent life insurance, not a direct investment in the stock market. Interest credits may be limited by caps, participation rates, and other terms. Policy costs, funding, loans and withdrawals affect values and coverage. Benefits and availability vary by policy; no returns are guaranteed.
